Claudia Wilde is self-taught fine art/documentary photographer, born in Austria and currently based on Gubbi Gubbi Country on the East Coast of Australia. Her passion for photography stems from a deep desire for connection and a commitment to uncovering human truths within complex narratives.
Her work is anchored in a lifelong curiosity about human nature, particularly the resilience of individuals facing and overcoming profound challenges. Claudia’s artistic journey took a deeply personal turn with the birth of her daughter, whose early heart surgery became a catalyst for her focus on motherhood. This experience not only exposed her to the fragility of life but also ignited a need to explore the often-unseen emotional landscapes of mothers.
The exploration of her own journey as a mother, especially throughout the pandemic, quickly evolved into a broader mission: creating safe, supportive environments for other mothers to share their stories, confront their traumas, and be given a voice to express themselves through the power of photography.
She is currently working on two long-term personal projects: "Mother: Beneath the Surface" and "Held: You Are Not Alone", both of which delve into the nuanced, often dual realities of motherhood. Her work is guided by empathy, authenticity, and a commitment to ethical storytelling, placing the dignity and moral protection of her subjects at its core. Her work has been featured in Vogue Germany as well as PhotoVogue.
